Russia has offered tech billionaire Elon Musk political asylum after his raging online feud with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking to Russian state news outlet TASS, Dmitry Novikov compared Musk to Edward Snowden, who was responsible for one of the most significant classified document leaks in U.S. history.
“I think that Musk is playing a completely different game, that he will not need any political asylum, although if he did need it, Russia, of course, could provide it,” he said.

Novikov, who is deputy chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma, made the comments as presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS that Russia would not interfere.
“This is an internal matter of the United States. We are in no way going to interfere in this, or comment on it in any way,” he said.
“We are confident that the U.S. president will handle this situation on his own.”

Less concerned with giving Musk asylum was former Russian president and senior security official Dmitry Medvedev, who mocked the pair online.
“We are ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between D and E for a reasonable fee and to accept Starlink shares as payment,” he posted on X. “Don’t fight, guys.”
The asylum offer comes after Trump and Musk ended their bromance in a public feud, with Trump threatening to pull Musk’s government contracts and describing him as “crazy.”
Speaking to reporters at a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House, Trump claimed Musk was mad over the EV mandate being scrapped, and that he had developed “Trump derangement syndrome.”

The EV mandate refers to Trump wanting to cut a $7,500 tax incentive for electric vehicle (EV) buyers.
“I’m very disappointed with Elon. I’ve helped him a lot,” Trump said.
“When that [the EV mandate] was cut and Congress wanted to cut it, he became a little bit different,” Trump added.
“He hasn’t said bad about me personally, but I’m sure that’ll be next.”
Later on Truth Social, Trump continued to fire barbs at Musk, describing him as “crazy” and threatening to pull his government contracts.

“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave. I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY,” he wrote.
In a separate post, he added: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.”
In response, Musk claimed Trump was implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein files and this is why they remain sealed.
He also threatened to decommission Space X’s Dragon spacecraft, but later walked back on the threat.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT,” Musk posted on X.

He re-shared Trump’s post regarding his government contracts and wrote: “In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.”
With his X feed filled up with digs at Trump, Musk also continued to criticize the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which kicked off the ‘break-up’ as it is expected to add $3.8 trillion to the federal deficit in the next decade.
The bill is a broad legislative initiative designed to revamp the federal tax system, cut domestic spending, and impose tighter controls on healthcare and immigration policies.
It aims to extend the 2017 tax cuts enacted during the first Trump administration, implement more restrictive eligibility standards for Medicaid, and limit federal support for abortion services and gender-affirming care.

At the same time, the legislation calls for a sharp increase in funding for defense and border security, including expanded surveillance operations and more personnel along the U.S.-Mexico border.
After leaving his role as a special government employee for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk described the bill as a “disgusting abomination.”
The Space X and Tesla CEO has now called for Trump to be impeached, replaced by JD Vance, and is backing a proposal to ban all sitting members of Congress from re-election if the deficit exceeds 3% of U.S. GDP.
Trump ally Steve Bannon has called for Musk to be deported back to South Africa, despite him now being a U.S. citizen.

🚨 BREAKING: President Trump on Elon Musk:
“Elon is upset because we took the EV mandate which was a lot of money for electric vehicles. They’re having a hard time the electric vehicles, and they want us to pay billions of dollars in subsidy. Elon knew this from the beginning.” pic.twitter.com/VwB7bSapXe

“I happen to believe, given the facts that I’ve been shown, that he is an illegal alien. Illegal alien’s gotta be deported,” Bannon said on his War Room podcast.
It appears this could be what sparked Russia’s asylum offer.
So far, neither Musk nor Trump have commented on Russia’s offer, but the feud has had a stark impact on Tesla.
By end of the day Thursday, stocks had tanked by 14%, costing about $150 billion in market value.
“I think that Musk is playing a completely different game, that he will not need any political asylum, although if he did need it, Russia, of course, could provide it,” he said. That is not an offer of political asylum, it's a politician taking a dig at the "inmates running the asylum" that is the US government right now, said with a smile.
